Gazpacho

This is my boxy coat pattern and is actually the coat that is on the pattern cover. I had been collecting vegetable themed fabrics for a vegetable coat that I had been designing in my head for a long time. My original idea was to feature seed packs on one side of the front of the garment, growing veggies on the other side and harvested vegetables spilling out of a basket on the back. I just couldn't pull the design together and one day had the opportunity to discuss my idea with quilter, Ruth McDowell. She diagnosed my artists block saying, “You got at least 3 coats if not more in that plan!” So I came home, simplified and just made the coat. The fabrics on the back reminded me of a soup, thus it was named Gazpacho.
