Rachel's 12 Days of Christmas: The Poinsettia Ensemble

On the Sixth Day of Christmas, we present the Poinsetta Ensemble!

This garment is a showcase of Rachel’s poinsettia fabric collection. The floral fabrics all feature poinsettias in one form or another. In the side seam of the skirt is a sequence of strip pieced chevrons made from several Christmas themed fabrics. Rachel created the skirt first. When it was finished it demanded a jacket to go with it as a top.

Rachel wanted a simple jacket that could be worn with the skirt and would keep with the Christmas theme. She settled on pieced red fabrics (there are at least 12 -maybe you can count more?). Each is a red print so the jacket is true red.

To complete the Christmas floral theme, the jacket liner is boughs of holly. Rachel usually pieces on a foundation, giving a garment three layers. In this case she didn’t want the bulk of three layers so she pieced on the wrong side of the lining, making a light jacket rather than a true coat.
