Sangria, a Mermaid's Denial and a Watermelon Man

It sounds like a wayward fairytale but those are references to coats Rachel displayed at this year's Pacific International Quilt Festival. Every year Rachel and her friends Gayle and Corlis participate in PIQF by coming up with a theme and making garments for a group exhibit. This year's theme was Food, Floral and Fun. Rachel contributed 6 garments. Three new coats and three old standbys that fit the theme too well to be left out.

The 3 new garments are: Sangria a magenta wine colored coat made using Seminole Piecing techniques, a mermaid themed coat titled I am not the Mermaid, I am the Sea, and Swine Soiree. If you took one of Rachel's online coat classes this year, Swine Soiree was the in-progress coat that was often pinned up behind Rachel during class. There's also a story behind the Mermaid coat that we'll tell in the next blog post.

For this post we'll show off Sangria.

If you're interested in learning more about the Seminole technique used in this coat, take a look at Rachel's online class offerings. There's a Seminole Technique class coming up in a few weeks.
