The Coat Maker Series: African Emporium

I created African Emporium using oversized images from African wax prints. The idea behind this coat was a big marketplace full of different goods for sale. For my workspace, I used my swing coat pattern. Considering the variety of fabrics I used, I decided to place narrow, solid jacquard strips between the panels, like stalls in a marketplace. Finally, to add to the impression of goods in a marketplace place, I quilted and embellished my coat with beads and buttons. This coat really invites people to come up and talk. It displays fabrics that are fun to see and share.
